If you were one of the many people who tuned in to watch the Spike Video Game Awards (VGA’s), I imagine that like me you have some mixed thoughts on this years winners and losers. Samuel L. Jackson served as fourth time host of the show. Linkin Park and Tenacious D took to the stage as this years musical performers. And like most award shows, the VGA’s suffered the normal ups and downs. For the first time the event was live -streamed on Microsoft’s Xbox Live and viewers were able to vote for what clips and music they would like played through out the show.

  • Game of the Year: TellTale’s The Walking Dead
  • Best Xbox 360 Game: 343’s Halo 4
  • Best PS3 Game: Sony’s Journey
  • Best Shooter: 2k/Gearbox’s Borderlands 2
  • Best Action Adventure Game: Bethesda’s Dishonored
  • Best RPG: EA/Bioware’s Mass Effect 3
  • Best PC: 2K’s X:Com Enemy Unknown
  • Best Wii/Wii U Game: Nintendo’s New Super Mario Bros. Universe

Valve’s Half Life 2 took home Game of the Decade.

Viewer voted Most Anticipated Game went, undoubtedly, to Grand Theft Auto V. And Character of the Year went to comic-relief Claptrap of Borderlands 2. While the VGA’s may get mixed reviews about who took home awards and who didn’t, the event’s main focus on upcoming releases, sneak peeks and world premier teaser trailers really shined. Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us finally gets a confirmed release date and the show took the veil off some otherwise never-before-seen titles like Dark Souls 2 and The Phantom Pain.
