Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture is the newest title being released by Sony Santa Monica, and it’s coming exclusively to the PS4.  When the developers of Dear Esther first announce the project, no word was given as to whether or not it would be a next gen game.  While screen shots and teasers kept popping up, no hints were released as to a possible date.

But now with Gamescom going on, fans are finally getting some more insight.  On the PlayStation blog, co-directors Dan Pinchbeck and Jessica Curry of The Chinese Room talk more on the success of Dear Esther and how it led to Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture.

The game centers around a lone scientist who has survived the end of the world.  As one of the seemingly last people left, it’s up to the players to explore what’s left of the world.  Played through a first person perspective, players will interact with several different people, places and objects as they try to piece together what happened.   But this won’t be just another exploration game.  Dan and Jessica have said “There’s also a really cool thing you can do which makes the game really different and makes this process of exploring the story something you could only do in a game,” but sadly they added, “but we’re keeping that secret for now.”  They did promise a reveal on the hidden mechanic soon however.
