Nintendo apparently is thinking of bringing Minecraft to the 3DS and the WiiU, according to comments made during an interview.

While talking with Kotaku, Shigeru Miyamoto and Shinya Takahashi, the heads of Nintendo’s internal development teams, mentioned that Minecraft would be perfect on Nintendo devices. According to them, its the touch pad on both the 3DS and the WiiU that would make a difference, giving players way more accessibility then they ever had before with just a simple controller.

“We’ve always thought internally that using the GamePad would probably make for a Minecraft that’s very easy to play. And, of course, if we were to do something with Minecraft on the 3DS, similarly we would probably do it where it would be easier to play and could probably reach a lot of kids.”

As Nintendo usually does, when it comes to Minecraft they are striving to make it appealing to as wide of an audience as possible. For Nintendo, this will be an excellent opportunity. “What’s interesting is that, in Japan, Minecraft is not popular in the way it is in the U.S. and Europe,” Takahashi told Kotaku, “so we’ve also thought that, if we were able to do a partnership like that, it might bring opportunity to help make Minecraft more popular in Japan.”

Although, Miyamoto has actually never played Minecraft, it doesn’t stop him from desiring it on Nintendo consoles. With how successful Minecraft is on touch-based mobile devices, having it on touch-based consoles wouldn’t be that much of a stretch. “Our hardware is the only hardware that you can do both the touch control and stick control,” he said.
