IMG_0278While I never like to speak in absolutes, I simply can’t imagine there ever being anyone who will make us smile and laugh like Robin Williams did. Robin was an absolutely incredible human being who was supremely gifted in the art of comedy and improvisation as well as the art of kindness and love. Because of his gifts, talents, and his impossibly huge heart, he is and will always be beloved by the entire world.

While everyone knows that Robin Williams was a truly brilliant actor and comedian, there are very few who knew of his love for gaming. That’s right, my friends. Robin was one of us, a gamer through and through. In fact, he loved games so much that he even named is daughter, Zelda, after his favorite game of all time, The Legend of Zelda. This is why I was so impossibly excited to have stumbled upon a petition that is trying to honor this incredible man in legendary fashion.

Nick Schaedel, a petition organizer, has written a petition that is quickly gaining momentum in the gaming community. Nick and thousands of gamers are appealing to Nintendo to have Robin Williams honored and memorialized by adding him as an NPC character in future games in The Legend of Zelda franchise. For this man who meant so much to all of us, I cannot imagine a better way to cherish his memory than to have him immortalized in a game that he and millions of others hold dear.

Yesterday, sources reported Nintendo’s reply to the petition. Nintendo responded by saying, “Robin Williams was loved at Nintendo. […] Our hearts go out to his entire family, and especially to Zelda Williams who we’ve worked with multiple times. […] We appreciate the outpouring of support from the gaming community, and hear the request of fans to honor him in a future game. We will not be discussing what might be possible for future games during this difficult time, but we will hold our memories of Robin close.” While it is completely understandable why Nintendo is unable to immediately make any decisions on this matter, I was pleased to see their immediate and sincere response.

TingleWWHDLike countless others, Robin Williams was more than an entertainer to me, he was one of my heroes. His tragic death hurt me more than I could have ever imagined, but that will not be my last memory of the great, Robin Williams. I want to commemorate this hero in a spectacular fashion that the world will never forget. Help me and thousands of others gamers and fans to celebrate the life of a man who made ours so much brighter.

Robin Williams: Hero of Time. Wielder of the Triforce of Life, Laughter, and Love. We will remember you always.
