As of now the PlayStation 4 is the only confirmed console for Dean Hall’s open world zombie game, DayZ, of course this might not always be the case. When Hall was asked a question regarding DayZ exclusivity or whether the game was coming for the Xbox One, Hall said he did not believe that DayZ would be exclusive to the PlayStation 4 forever.

“DayZ is definitely going to be a multiplatform title,” he said. “That’s the firm vision from Bohemia’s standpoint. But we’ll announce what all the other platforms are as we get to that point.”

The console version of DayZ was announced during Sony’s Gamescom back in August. Even then Hall made a point to say that just because they were on Sony’s stage making the announcement, it was incorrect to assume that the game was for PlayStation 4 alone.

Now of course this doesn’t come as a huge surprise. It has been well known that Hall met with Microsoft earlier in the year where they “extensively” discussed DayZ for the Xbox One. Currently however it is unknown if DayZ will be a timed exclusive for the PlayStation 4, or if the Xbox One version is also in the works and Hall just agreed to announced the game on Sony’s stage.

DayZ is still available on the PC where it first began. It can be purchased through Steam Early Access or Bohemia’s website, but this is just a work in progress and is not the finished product. Currently neither Sony nor Microsoft have any sort of Early Access style support system, though it has been discussed and may be available in the future.

“There’s a lot of problems with Early Access on PC that definitely are at the forefront of people’s minds,” Hall said. “So when DayZ will release would depend very much on what Sony offers in terms of if it was going to do an Early Access program, what it looks like. Then also the state of DayZ–does it make sense to do it through that?”

Hall did say however, that if platform holders like Sony and Microsoft don’t get onto the Early Access bandwagon, then gamers might have to wait until 2016 or even later for DayZ to reach them.

“A straight up retail release? It’s not going to be next year, because there’s just too much work remaining,” he said. “It would be a very bizarre universe where there would be a 1.0 release of DayZ on consoles before PC.”

Hall also went on to say that the console version of DayZ would have to be drastically different then the current PC version.“I think there will have to be,” he said. “But the aim will be to play on the strengths of those consoles.”
