As most of us know this past holiday season, Xbox Live and Playstation Network suffered several DDoS (distributed denial of service) attacks. Well, an arrest has been made of an 18-year-old who may be in connection with the incident.

The BBC reported that the young man was arrested in Southport, near Liverpool in the UK. Additionally, he was also arrested for giving false information to US. police agencies.

He was specifically arrested for “swatting,” a term used when one provides police with false information in order to elicit an armed response. According to the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit, all his calls were made via Skype.

Earlier in the week, President Obama had proposed new measures to even further combat such cybercrimes in the future, in addition to the leak that occurred at Sony pictures and the hacking of the United States Central Command Twitter account.
