Although this has nothing to do with the mega million dollar franchise of Jurassic Park it has at least peaked the interest of the realm of video games. The ARK: Survival Evolved trailer just surfaced and it is astounding to say the least.

It starts with a loud growl and fades from black into a first person view of a person running, while clearly scared for their dear life. Their view shows us a beautiful surrounding jungle with the sunlight peaking through the trees but with no time to stop and smell the roses. As our character runs He finally sees his reprieve. A gate! With two guards who are holding spears.  Inside there are more hunter/solider/guards. Safety. Relief. He runs past them and turns around, just in time, TO SEE A HUGE TYRANNOSAURS REX BURST THROUGH THE GATE!

Thats only the beginning. The almost 4 minute trailer has much to show and boast about. From the trailer the game seems to be an open sandbox MMO set on some enormous island that has every type of our extinct friends as you could imagine…even the DoDo Bird. As you watch it becomes clear that you can travel with a team or alone. It also seems that you can hunt, tame, or be hunted as you travel. Players are shown riding all types and sizes of Dinosaurs, including (but not limited to) flying the bright, blue sky in a Pterodactyl, or roaming the green terrain on the slow, lumbering Brontosaurus. Like all MMOs it wouldn’t be complete without a player killing things with all manner of weapons, from bow and arrow to a light machine gun. Building safe houses and small towns is another aspect of the game shown, seemingly to keep you and your buddies safe from rouge killer dinos.

The game was developed by Studio WildCard. You can apply for early Access (PC only) to the game on the website, Playark.com, this June. The early access is a big deal and according to the studio’s website for the game, here’s why,

“ARK is a huge game, in terms of geographical space, scope of content, features, technology, and just about every other metric. We’re a veteran team with some major hits behind our leads, and much of the core challenge is already met, but this is still an ambitious one for us. We want the player community’s help to ‘evolve’ ARK into the dinosaur world game that we’ve been dreaming about … and through interaction and iteration with the ARK’s community, we think we have the best shot at creating the be-all, end-all long-term prehistoric universe that we want to live and thrive in. We have a great start, and with your valued input and contributions, we will take it all the way together!”

A:SE was announced for a full release on PC, PS4, and XboxOne by June 2016.

I have worked hard to become the COO here at GAW and I love it. I write and stream here and I couldn't be happier. I once had a show that I produced, wrote, and co-hosted called the Wide World of Games. I also co-host a podcast called Party Up! I'm an Action-Adventurer, platformer, RPGer, and FPS kind of gamer. Quick to play any game that has magic, swordplay, and/or stealthy elements. If you can customize a character I'm in it for the long haul. Or just give me your 2D platform and I'm a happy camper. What else do you expect from a gamer with a beard and a bow tie tattoo? Seriously.
