A week has passed and Blizzard Entertainment announced that it has ‘dealt’ with the infamous ‘Butt Pose’ that the internet blew up about for their animated heroin Overwatch, Tracer.  The updated picture was posted on NeoGAF. However, Blizzard made sure the critics now have nothing to complain about in a truly unrelenting internet fashion.

The Original (what started the whole controversy):

The Newest Version (which will just rub salt in critics eyes):

It’s perfect! Blizzard has shown the fun side of Tracer that the internet wanted while still showing that sassy, sexy side. It’s a win/win.

Controversy around Tracer’s butt emerged at the end of March, when someone (literally one person) in the Overwatch forums said they were none-too-pleased with it. It sparked a huge debate that travelled all over the Twitter-verse, Reddit, and more.

Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan replied to the thread, saying Blizzard was planning to replace the post so as to create a more welcoming environment for all players. “We want *everyone* to feel strong and heroic in our community. The last thing we want to do is make someone feel uncomfortable, under-appreciated, or misrepresented,” he explained. “Apologies and we’ll continue to try to do better.”

At the time, Kaplan acknowledged that Blizzard was not exactly thrilled with the first version.

“We weren’t entirely happy with the original pose, it was always one that we wrestled with creatively. That the pose had been called into question from an appropriateness standpoint by players in our community did help influence our decision–getting that kind of feedback is part of the reason we’re holding a closed beta test–but it wasn’t the only factor. We made the decision to go with a different pose in part because we shared some of the same concerns, but also because we wanted to create something better.”

Overwatch launches on May 24 for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. What do you think about this new pose? Does it fix whatever the problem was with the last one? Tell us in the comments below! Stay Tune to Gamer Assault Weekly for all your gaming needs.

Author note:
While some people think that bending to the communities can be bad for a company, Blizzard handled this with one part Class and one part Sass. On one hand Tracer looks better than ever! She gets that sexy and fun pose they were probably looking for. They nailed it. On the other, the internet can no longer mouth off because they ‘did’ change the pose. It’s no longer the full on butt they were ‘offended’ by. Now its almost accentuated by being turned to the side.

Good job guys! Keep it up!

I have worked hard to become the COO here at GAW and I love it. I write and stream here and I couldn't be happier. I once had a show that I produced, wrote, and co-hosted called the Wide World of Games. I also co-host a podcast called Party Up! I'm an Action-Adventurer, platformer, RPGer, and FPS kind of gamer. Quick to play any game that has magic, swordplay, and/or stealthy elements. If you can customize a character I'm in it for the long haul. Or just give me your 2D platform and I'm a happy camper. What else do you expect from a gamer with a beard and a bow tie tattoo? Seriously.
