During a one-hour Twitch stream on Gearbox’s official account, the studio unveiled Ernest, a new character coming next week to Early Access players of Battleborn, with a September 1st release date for everybody else.

This is the third free character to be announced for the game, with the latest, Pendles, having been released just a few weeks ago. Gearbox has stated that they plan on releasing five new characters altogether, with an event occurring every time a new character is released, and the other two will be released sometime before the end of the year.

Despite lackluster reviews and a waning fan base thanks to games like Overwatch taking over the competitive scene, Gearbox has stated that they don’t plan on giving up on Battleborn, rather continuing to release content in hopes it will bring back some players who may have grown tired of the game after its launch.

Ernest himself can be described as a defensive character, though his penchant for grenade launchers and explosives can seem slightly counter intuitive to that fact.
