Sony Pictures has released the first twelve minutes of the upcoming Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV, the tie-in movie to the upcoming Final Fantasy XV, on their official YouTube channel. Along with the first twelve minutes, an exclusive minute long clip was released exclusively to Gamespot, which you can watch below:

The movie, which has received mixed reviews from critics, has been lauded for its facial animation and action sequences, but has been knocked down a few points from mainstream journalists for being a bit too bloated and convoluted for those who aren’t already familiar with Final Fantasy, especially Final Fantasy XV. The film boasts an all-star cast of Aaron Paul (Breaking Bad), Sean Bean (Lord of the Rings) and Lena Heady (Game of Thrones) and was created by some of the same team members behind the last Final Fantasy film, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, which was released in 2005.

This is the second tie-in to be released alongside Final Fantasy XV, with the other being the short-form anime series Brotherhood: Final Fantasy XV, which released its fourth (of six) episode yesterday morning. That series ties in directly with the upcoming game, with the sixth episode available only to those that purchase the $275 limited edition. Along with the first twelve minutes, Sony released the following synopsis to give viewers an idea of what to expect:

“The magical kingdom of Lucis is home to the sacred Crystal, and the menacing empire of Niflheim is determined to steal it. King Regis of Lucis (Sean Bean) commands an elite force of soldiers called the Kingsglaive. Wielding their king’s magic, Nyx (Aaron Paul) and his fellow soldiers fight to protect Lucis. As the overwhelming military might of the empire bears down, King Regis is faced with an impossible ultimatum–to marry his son, Prince Noctis to Princess Lunafreya of Tenebrae (Lena Headey), captive of Niflheim, and surrender his lands to the empire’s rule. Although the king concedes, it becomes clear that the empire will stop at nothing to achieve their devious goals, with only the Kingsglaive standing between them and world domination.”

Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV will be released in select theaters tomorrow, with a digital release August 30th and a Blu-Ray release on October 4th. You can watch the first 12 minutes here:
