Todd Howard, director and executive producer at Bethesda Game Studios, had a recent interview with Glixel that had some surprising answers, with his information about Bethesda’s work on the Nintendo Switch and a sixth installment in the Elder Scrolls series being particularly revealing.

He revealed that he played a demo build of the Nintendo Switch behind closed doors at E3, stating, “I love it. I got to play it. I will tell you–well, maybe that’s an N.D.A. thing. One of the best demos I’ve ever seen. Probably the best demo I’ve ever seen. At E3.”. Howard radiated positivity about the console, saying that it’s “really smart what they’re [Nintendo] doing.”

He went on to confirm Bethesda’s support for the Switch’s software library. “We’re definitely going to be supporting the console,” he said. He noted that it would be the first time Bethesda has developed for Nintendo since the days of the NES, where they published titles like Home Alone and Where’s Waldo.

Skyrim Special Edition showed up on the Nintendo Switch trailer, and Bethesda was officially listed as one of many developers officially working on a title for the Nintendo Switch. In spite of that, Skyrim Special Edition for Nintendo Switch hasn’t been officially confirmed. This interview, however, drops a hint suggests Skyrim Special Edition is all but guaranteed.

Todd Howard was asked, “Can you really bring Skyrim with you on the go?” Instead of denying the rumors about Skyrim as a Switch title, he teasingly replied, “It’s the same game on the TV and on the other screen.”

If you’re curious about the future of the Elder Scroll series, Todd Howard suggests you’ll have to wait a little longer. Elder Scrolls VI is in the works, but Bethesda is putting its focus into other projects. He remarked that Elder Scrolls VI is “not what you would call a big, active project right now,” and that it’s “certainly a game that we’ll be making one day.”

From the sounds of things, Elder Scrolls VI is in early planning. While this news sounds like a shame, Bethesda’s games take a solid six to year years to make. Here’s Todd Howard’s full statement for Bethesda’s fans:

“There are some other ones that we have going. We know it’s important to our fans, and we need to be careful about setting expectations.

It’s certainly a game that we’ll be making one day. I could sit here and explain to you exactly what we want it to be.”

Previously, Todd Howard has suggested Bethesda is working on “three big and crazy projects” besides the Elder Scrolls series. However, he has revised his words more carefully in a later interview where he said that it may be long before we hear about all of those projects, and that there’s a lot of overlapping bigger and smaller projects.

The full Glixel interview is worth a read for any fan of Bethesda’s games. The interview shows off Todd Howard’s insight as a developer as well as commentary about Fallout 4 and Skyrim.
