The Nintendo Switch presentation showed some strong representation for the RPG genre on stage, including Xenoblade 2 and a number of exciting announcements from Square Enix. Atlus showcased another strong JRPG heavyweight, a brand new Shin Megami Tensei title. This year, the Shin Megami Tensei series celebrates its 25 year anniversary, so expect this next title to meet standards worthy of a 25th anniversary title.

The initial teaser doesn’t reveal much, but shows a lot of series trademarks. The trailer takes us to a ruined building in what could be a post-apocalyptic Tokyo. We see a large gathering of familiar series demons, like Jack Frost and Pixie. An armored character, possibly our protagonist, walks in and turns towards the screen. The Shin Megami Tensei logo appears after ominous bell sounds.

Not much to go off of and not even a subtitle, unfortunately. Could this be Shin Megami Tensei V? Maybe. While there’s a lot more detail and cinematics than the original announcement for Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, the lack of a release date suggests it may be a while before we here more about this title. Regardless, we’re greatly looking forward to this title.
