Get ready, because there are a number of new developments coming to Shovel Knight. The game is expecting new content, a new platform, a new name, and a raise in pricing.

Yacht Club Games announced via their blog that Shovel Knight and the Specter of Torment expansion will be coming to the Nintendo Switch. No release date has been announced, which makes sense considering the Switch itself has not yet been given a release date either. The format of the game is set to change as well, having a subtitle “Treasure Trove” added to the main package, with the original campaign now being known as Shovel Knight: Shovel of Hope.

Shovel Knight Campaigns

All campaigns, including Shovel of Hope, Plague of Shadows, and the soon-to-come Specter of Torment and King Knight, as well as Battle mode, are going to be available as cheaper standalone experiences in future iterations on PS4, PC, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch. This convenience allows players to choose whichever campaign they wish for less money, and returning fans to pick up any new campaigns being released.

The pricing for Treasure Trove, which will include all of this, will be raised. The change will take place sometime in the Spring, but a specific price was not announced.

“We want to keep our promise of releasing free content for all players,” Yacht Club explained via an FAQ. “We also want to continue building these campaigns and features to be the best! Somewhere along the way, the game has simply gotten too big! It’s difficult for many players out there to find everything or even know that these campaigns exist. We believe that providing standalone versions will provide better entry points for different types of players and allow more people to continue enjoying each adventure on their next favorite platform.”

ShovelKnight

Local co-op mode is also coming to PS4, PC, and Xbox One (not yet confirmed for Vita or 3DS, however). It had previously been locked to the WiiU version for Shovel Knight Amiibo owners.

Since it’s 2014 launch, Shovel Knight has received an amazing amount of support from loyal fans who funded the game’s Kickstarter grandly. This lead Yacht Club Games to deliver on many promises of adding more and more content such as more playable characters and expanded campaigns.

Finally, for fans of Yacht Club Games themselves, they have stated for those who are looking for something new from them outside of Shovel Knight, that something also may be in the works, saying “These are new games! But if you want something new outside of Shovel Knight… we have vowed to begin work on a new project this year!”
