South by Southwest (SXSW) is a technology convention held in Texas, and during it, SEGA is holding a panel called “Gotta Go Fast: The Official Panel of Sonic the Hedgehog”. Head of Sonic Team Takashi Iizuka will be joined by the fellow who runs Sonic’s infamous Twitter account and will run a presentation about “Sonic’s resurgence in the world of gaming”.

The really exciting news here though is that they plan to “showcase a new reveal” of the upcoming pair of Sonic titles: the yet-to-be-named Sonic 2017 project, and the return of classic Genesis platforming, Sonic Mania. In addition to this news, there’ll be a couple of exciting guests to the panel, namely the voice of Sonic, Roger Craig Smith, and the voice of Dr. Robotnik, Mike Pollok.

The panel’s description reads that “Of course, with Sonic involved, who knows what other surprises might be in store?” With Sonic Mania lacking a release date and precious little known about Sonic 2017 beyond its initial, quite vague trailer, this panel could shed a lot of light on the upcoming games. South by Southwest runs from the 10th of March through to the 19th, and the Sonic panel takes place on the 16th at 3pm Pacific Time.

Sonic Mania and Sonic 2017 will both be coming to the Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch. Sonic Mania will be coming sometime this year and Sonic 2017‘s release window has yet to be revealed.
