During the “Nindies Showcase” stream, which highlighted upcoming indie titles for the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo revealed SteamWorld Dig 2. The SteamWorld series has been a favorite for indie gamers, and each new entry has attempted new genres and formulas with each title. SteamWorld Dig 2 is the first to return to a previous title, and refines it.

The developers, Image & Form, describe it as “platform mining adventure forged in Metroidvania flames.” The trailer gives us a glimpse at the game’s huge subterranean world, and the digging action to come.

The original game’s merchant, Dorothy, has been promoted to the playable heroine. According to the trailer’s description, she’s searching for a lost friend– who’s likely the hero of the first game.

SteamWorld Dig 2 will be coming to the Nintendo Switch in Summer 2017. Currently, Image & Form hasn’t announced if the game will arrive on other consoles.
