The indie roguelike, Risk of Rain, is getting a sequel. On the developer blog, Hopoo Games announced Risk of Rain 2, a 3D successor to the original title.

The team has been hard at work on the project for six months so far. They’ve stressed that the project is very early in development, and they’ve wanted to break the news to their fans for some time now since beginning work on the sequel.

Risk of Rain 2 is the team’s first fully 3D project. Hopoo Games is transforming the original side-scrolling experience into 3D environments. According to the dev blog, 3D offered “deeper design spaces and more possibilities for cool gameplay” and went on to suggest that feelings of scale and atmosphere “are also much stronger.”

Currently, Hopoo Games has no release window on the game. They are still very early in development. If you’d like to play the original, you can pick up Risk of Rain on PS4, PS Vita, and PC.
