Netflix has officially announced that they are developing a series based on The Witcher Saga based on the novels. The games, although they are loosely based on the books, the show will most likely be more heavily based on the books.

They have taken a step in the right direction by having Andrzej Sapkowski, the Polish author of the so-far eight book series, as a creative consultant. It will be co-produced by Netflix, Sean Daniel, and Jason Brown; they can be attributed to the production of Ben-Hur, The Mummy franchise, and The Expanse.

At least one episode will be directed by Tomas Baginski, the man who directed the intro videos to all three of The Witcher games. His other works include Cyberpunk 2077 teaser, The Animated History of Poland, The Seven Gates of Jerusalem, and many others.

Unfortunately, there are no further details about the show, and there currently is no scheduled release date.

There is speculation that the show’s story will vary from that of the games and be more based on the source material. We assume this because Andrzej Sapkowski did not received any money from the games, as well as the fact that he has gone on record saying he does not have a positive opinion on the games. He says that the games have cost him book sales, and that his books made the game popular. He also also stated, “I am thrilled that Netflix will be doing [an] adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing.” We should expect the show to be more like the books then, so if you want to get caught up on the lore of the world, time for you to start reading.

Are you excited about this, or do you think that the show will be a complete flop?
