A lot of you dedicated Overwatch players probably spent the weekend getting accustomed to the new hero Doomfist. While the PTR PC realm has had a significant time trying out the deadly Talon agent, console gamers are finally getting the chance to try out Doomfist for themselves. However, as strong as Doomfist is, not everyone will get to play him and you don’t want to be on the receiving end of one of his strikes. So now the question is ‘How do you counter Doomfist?’

Let’s start off with a list of Doomfist’s abilities:

  • HAND CANNON: Doomfist fires a short-range burst from the knuckles of his fist. Its ammunition is automatically regenerated over a short time.
  • SEISMIC SLAM: Doomfist leaps forward and smashes into the ground, knocking nearby enemies toward him.
  • RISING UPPERCUT: Doomfist uppercuts enemies in front of him into the air.
  • ROCKET PUNCH: After charging up, Doomfist lunges forward and knocks an enemy back, dealing additional damage if they impact a wall.
  • METEOR STRIKE (Ultimate): Doomfist leaps into the sky, then will crash to the ground, dealing significant damage.
THE BEST DEFENSE… (Passive): Doomfist generates temporary personal shields when he deals ability damage.

Go mid or long range

Doomfist is a close range fighter, this means anyone who can attack from afar is optimal for defeating Doomfist. His primary goal is to rush into battle and to kill quickly since his passive ability generates shielding the more damage he causes. Doomfist can also charge through shields used by Orisa and Reinhardt for added damage if pinned, so if you see him about to charge get away from that shield. The best heroes to combat Doomfist are:

Solider 76

Shoot from a distance and run if Doomfist gets too close, maintaining a safe distance from his melee and arm cannon.

Sombra

Keep Doomfist at a distance, if he closes in retreat using your Translocator. Doomfist heavily relies on his abilities, hacking him would benefit your entire team by stranding the Talon agent after he charges into battle.

Hanzo

Remain at a distance, take the high ground, and continue to shoot arrows. If forced into close combat use Scatter Arrow as a last ditch effort.

Windowmaker

Remain far from Doomfist. If he closes in retreat to your allies or use your grapple hook to reach higher ground. Doomfist lacks aerial movement so staying high makes you a difficult target.

McCree

Keep Doomfist at a distance, if charges counter with flashbang Flash the Hammar.

Pharah

Remain in the air and shoot from a far. Doomfist lacks any ranged combat so if you stay in the air he’ll have to retreat.

Overwatch is now available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
