When a franchise cannot continue forward but needs a fresh perspective a reboot is done. We’ve seen it with the Tomb Raider franchise and Prey. Some other franchises would benefit from a reboot. Here are the top five games that should be rebooted.

Number Five: Crysis

Crysis was a game that tested your PC’s power and was one of the best FPS games made. Each game that followed built on the open-ended gameplay, armor enhancing combat, and alien enemy variety. The final game in the trilogy, Crysis 3, released back in 2013 with popular acclaim. It was teased that the next game would be different from the other games but Crytek announced on June 12th, 2012 that the company would only focus on free-to-play games. EA does own the rights to Crysis and seeing they rebooted the Mirror’s Edge franchise perhaps they can do the same with Crysis. I would love to dive back into a Nanosuit.

Number Four: Rage

You probably don’t remember Rage. It was developed by id Software, the people behind Doom, and released in 2011. The game was heavily marketed as an exciting FPS with a fledged out story mode. Only half of that was true since the campaign only featured 2 areas to explore, very little optional content, and a bland story with a vexing ending. What id Software did do well was the combat, which featured an excellent array of weapons and high-paced FPS combat. Perhaps they can give Rage the Doom treatment.

Number Three: Mega Man X Series

The Mega Man X franchise has some of the best 2D platformers ever made. The series started to break down when the series attempted 3D gameplay in Mega Man X7 and was heavily criticized by fans and critics. However, the first game was remade as Mega Man Maverick Hunter X which received a positive reception. Return the franchise back to its roots with a fresh start. Mega Man is still one of the most beloved characters in video games and he shines in the 2D realm. Unless we’re talking about Mega Man Legends, which still deserves a sequel.

Number Two: Spyro the Dragon

Before Skylanders, Spyro the Dragon had a series of highly acclaimed games. Diverse environments, addicting collecting, and fantastic platforming action. Each Spyro the Dragon game introduced new mechanics that constantly made each sequel a refreshing experience. If Crash Bandicoot can return why not Spyro the Dragon? Start off with an HD remake and if it does well a reboot.

Number 1: Jak and Daxter

Ratchet and Clank PS4 showed that classic mascots can still deliver exciting adventures with adjustments to the gameplay to make the gameplay feel more modern. Jak and Daxter was one of the best reasons to own a PlayStation 2 and to this day gamers continue to ask Naughty Dog to create a new game in the franchise. While the last attempt became The Last of Us, Jak and Daxter could still return. Just give the duo another chance at a new trilogy.
