Marvel has just ended their relationship with game developer Gazillion Entertainment. As a result, Gazillion’s Marvel Heroes games are now going to be shut down.

Marvel Heroes received a console release just this past August, alongside a huge series of updates for the PC version. However, recent problems made it clear that the game’s management was undergoing difficulties. The game’s Thor: Ragnarok tie-in didn’t happen as promised, and the team hadn’t been updating their weekly development blog at all.

Now, Marvel has officially confirmed that the game will be shut down. A Marvel representative recently wrote to Kotaku:

We regret to inform our Marvel Heroes fans that we have ended our relationship with Gazillion Entertainment, and that the Marvel Heroes games will be shut down. We would like to sincerely thank the players who joined the Marvel Heroes community, and will provide any further updates as they become available.

Gazillion Entertainment is removing the ability to purchase items with real-life money as soon as possible. They will stop hosting the game’s servers after December 31, 2017.
