The Five Nights at Freddy’s series has achieved no small measure of success since it began in 2014. The franchise already has six main series games, one spin-off game, and two novels under its belt, becoming a true horror juggernaut in less than four years.

Naturally, there has been plenty of buzz over a potential film adaptation for the series for some time now. A FNaF movie was reportedly being made by Warner Bros. with Gil Kenan set to write and direct, however, as reported by Deadline, the film rights now belong to Blumhouse Productions. What’s more is that this Freddy film will be written, directed, and produced by none other than Chris Columbus.

Blumhouse took to Twitter to confirm the news.

Chris Columbus is obviously a massive name in the world of film, having written and/or directed such classics as The Goonies, Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire, and the first two Harry Potter movies. Not only that, but Blumhouse is responsible for modern horror masterpieces Split and Get Out.

It is also known that Scott Cawthon, FNaF‘s enigmatic creator, will be another one of the film’s producers. However, there is no information on a release date/window at this time, nor have any plot or cast details been revealed.

The FNaF series’ most recent release, Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator, is currently available for free on PC, Android, and iOS. The rest of the games are available for purchase.
