Back at The Game Awards 2017 Bayonetta 3 was confirmed but today on Twitter PlatinumGames founder Hideki Kamiya explained why not only Bayonetta 3 is not multi-platform but how the series survived thanks to Nintendo.

Kamiya history of Bayonetta. That SEGA provided funding for the original game but the sequel’s funding was halted. It was because of Nintendo funding the project, with SEGA’s okay, that Bayonetta 2 happened.

Bayonetta 3 was decided to be developed using Nintendo’s funding again, and according to Kamiya “Without their help, we would not have been able to kick off this project.” He explained it took a while for the project to be greenlit, most likely due to the Wii U not selling well.

However, fans of the series will have their chance to play both Bayonetta 1 and 2 when it releases again this week on the Nintendo Switch. Below are links to tweet thread that explains his reasoning.
