Mario Kart and Google Maps are teaming up this year with some Mario Day fun. To celebrate the day, Mario will be the position indicator when using the navigation app on your phone. Mario Kart on Google Maps is a temporary fun feature to celebrate Mario Day.

The update for Google Maps is rolling out on both iOS and Android devices. When it is installed, you’ll be presented with the ? block icon next to the start button when looking up directions. With that tapped, the navigation arrow is replaced with Mario. The Google blog does remind you to drive safely, and to notthrow bananas or red shells at other drivers in real life”.

The feature will be in place for a week, although Google does not say exactly when you can expect it to disappear. And this is not the first time that Google has done fun gaming Easter Eggs, in the past users were able to play Pac-Man on Google Maps.

What is Mario Day?

Mario Day is a celebration of all things Mario. It takes place annually on March 10th, due to date being “MAR10.” There are new My Nintendo rewards to celebrate the occasion. They allow you to get discounts on games in the franchise on the 3DS and Wii U.
