Five whole years after the game was first announced at E3 2013, Square Enix’s Kingdom Hearts III finally has an official release date.

Late at night on June 9, the official Kingdom Hearts Twitter page announced that Kingdom Hearts III will be released on January 29, 2019.

This is, course, a little bit later than the release window of 2018 Square Enix previously gave. However, Kingdom Hearts III‘s director Tetsuya Nomura took the time to address this, explaining in another tweet that he’s “sorry that we’re asking for a little more time than initially planned. Please look forward to other information, including a few trailers at E3. Thank you.”

Still, the fact that a release date has finally been given after years of waiting is likely to cause excitement among the Kingdom Hearts fanbase, especially considering that there’s still the rest of E3 2018 to look forward to. Moreover, the slight delay is more than likely a precaution taken by Square Enix to make sure the game is as optimized as possible before its release.

Kingdom Hearts III will be released for Xbox One and PS4 on January 29, 2019.
