After the massive success of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy Activision has put more dedication around reviving old IPs with a modern coat of paint. The latest being Insomniac’s Spyro franchise with Spyro Reignited Trilogy. In a recent interview with Game Informer senior producer Peter Kavic from developer Toys for Bob, the ones handling the remake, explained they’re taking the original games and building on that edifice.

According to Kavic:

“It wasn’t the actual source assets, however,” says Peter Kavic, senior producer at Toys for Bob. “The tool allowed us to map out the precious placement of objects in the world, and lines things traveled on. We have all of that accurately captured and recreated here.”

Insomniac was able to rely on the exact level meshes and used them for paint overs for the artists. They also used the original collision meshes to deliver what is essentially the exact same experience, but with a fresh coat of paint. “The original game is basically running under a bunch of layers,” Kavic explains.

Enemies have been updated with new animations. This complements the upgraded visuals which provide a fresh coat of paint to the graphics. The original music will return with dynamic changes. Based on Spyro’s actions the music will change.

In addition, new images were provided to showcase the game’s modern graphics.

The Spyro Reignited Trilogy will be coming to PS4 and Xbox One on September 21.
