Last month the animation studio Trigger (Little Witch Academia, Darling in the FranXX) launched a countdown website with little information, other than an image titled “Trigger x Arc System Works.”  This timer has since revealed the announcement for Kill la Kill: IF an arena-style fighting game which will be developed by Arc System Works (Dragon Ball FighterZ) and APLUS (Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time).

The debut trailer and screenshots were revealed this week at Anime Expo in Los Angeles, offering glimpses of the hard-hitting combos in a fight between the series protagonist Ryuko Matoi and her rival, the student council president of Honnouji Academy, Satsuki Kiryuuin. The anime follows Ryuko on her quest to find her father’s murderer, who she believes has the other half of her own “Rending Scissor” blade.  In order to get to Satsuki for more information, she must fight through members of the academy who wear Goku forms made of “Life Fibers” that give the wearer superhuman abilities.

While little is known about the game itself, the “untold story” will expand upon the current anime and will be supervised by Studio Trigger themselves. Kill la Kill: IF is slated for release sometime in 2019 for PC and PS4 and will be playable for the first time at Evo 2018 in Las Vegas.

About me: Christine "smollbirb" Marten is a recent college grad that has been playing video games since she was gifted with her first NES console in 1999. Known as LuxAterna on Steam, she started as a games journalist in 2012 and has been writing about games and the industry since. In college, she acted as the president/clubmother for the gaming club, and hosted her own gaming radio show called SoundWave Games. When she is not gaming she can be seen cosplaying at conventions, working with non-profits that fundraise through video games (like Extra Life and Child's Play), acting as community manager for The Senpai Project, playing League of Legends with friends, or serenading passerbyers with her violin skills on the streets of NYC. She will literally play anything that is thrown at her (but please don't throw to hard she is smoll). She enjoys indie games and horror games especially, and her favorite series of all times is Kingdom Hearts. Her third love, after video games and violin, is puns. Although it is a dangerous life she makes them whenever she hears the opportunity to do so. Christine hopes to bring her own spin on storytelling to the GAW community as she continues to seek out whatever the world has to offer!
